76-year-old woman becomes Udupi's first casualty due to black fungus

Udupi, May 22: First casualty due to black fungus (Mucormycosis) was reported in the district on Saturday May 22.

The deceased is a 76-year-old woman from Santhekatte. She was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Udupi and was under ventilator support.

The other patient, a 45-year-old from Nandikoor, is recovering.

Other seven patients who were undergoing treatment at Kasturba Hospital for black fungus were discharged from the hospital. All of them were out from outside districts namely Harihar, Hubballi, Dharwad, Chitradurga, Koppal, Davanagere and Ranebennur. Another new patient from outside district is admitted at Kasturba Hospital for black fungus.

Altogether, the district has recorded 10 cases till date.
