Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (DV)

Udupi, May 21: The district administration has sealed down a few houses where suspected Covid-19 patients are in home isolation.

It is said that positive cases are increasing in rural areas, given the suspected Covid-19 patients who are in home isolation, are not adhering to Covid guidelines. Instead, they are found roaming freely.

Even the deputy commissioner has received complaints of infected patients roaming the streets.

Today, under the initiative of deputy commissioner G Jagadeesh, officials seal down a few houses in Chantharu, Handadi and Havanje of Brahmavar taluk. He also morally boosted the patients. Initially, those who were in home isolation have neglected the guidelines. Also, incidents of threatening health workers have been reported.

To easily identify corona patients and keep eye on their movements, the administration has seal down a few houses. It is been directed that the infected should not come out and instead should take care of their health.

Speaking to Daijiworld, tahsildar Goraiah said, "Public have complained that the infected are roaming outside. To contain the spread of Covid-19, these measures have been taken. A task force has been formed in gram panchayat involving PDO, VAs. The officials will visit the homes of patients at least once a day. To test the saturation level of the Covid-19 patients, Rs 10 lac has been spent on pulse oximeters from the MLA's Local Area Development fund. The patients will have to return the instrument after they get well. Normally, the houses will be sealed down for 14 days. After the patient and his family members recover, the seal down will be lifted."

DHO Dr Sudhirchandra Sooda said, "In the district, the positivity rate is 40.83%. The people in villages are victimised due to corona. In the first and second wave, the highest number of deaths were reported in rural areas. In these places, as many as 208 people died due to corona. While in the city, 64 people succumbed to the infection. The people in rural areas should be more cautious about corona. If they display symptoms, they should immediately receive treatment. People should not neglect coronavirus symptoms. The government hospital will provide free treatment to patients. People should not wait till their health conditions deteriorate."

EFFORTS OF ADMIN. TOWARDS SPREAD OF COVID IS APPRECIATED; BUT WHY NOT PEOPLE UNDERSTAND IN THE SAME ANGLE? IN MY VIEW, 2ND WAVE IS THE RESULTS OF SHEER NEGLIGENCE OF PUBLIC IN NOT WEARING( PROPERLY) MASK, NOT MAINTAINING SOCIAL DISTANCE ETC.

Covid patients and family required mental and health care support on this difficult time. Sealing or putting board on the houses or area does not make any solution rather it gives mentally harassment to the family. What we supposed to do on this difficult time to overcome is , providing health care support, medicines, required food kits, knowledge about how to get cured from corona virus and how it spreads, financial packages if they are daily wage worker family. How to contact agency numbers if in case any health issues.
