Bengaluru, May 21: The state-wide lockdown to curb the surge in the second wave of Covid Pandemic in Karnataka, which was first announced on May 10 till May 24, has now been extended by another 14 days till June 7.
Chief minister B S Yediyurappa, on Saturday night, announced that the decision to extend the state-wide lockdown restrictions by another two weeks was taken based on expert advice and after consulting his ministers and officials.
He made it clear that the two-week lockdown currently implemented in the state has already started yielding results with the Covid positive cases coming down in Bengaluru and other parts of the state. However, it was felt necessary to extend the lockdown by another two weeks to curb the spread of the pandemic.
“We had a meeting with senior officials and ministers. We have taken a decision on lockdown. We had strict restrictions till May 24. As per the opinion of experts, we are extending the strict restrictions till June 7 at 6 am,” he said.
The chief minister made it clear that there are no changes in the restrictions but noted that people were not following the lockdown norms and has allowed the police authorities to take strict action against the violators.
Public transportation, including state RTC buses and Bangalore Metro services, will continue to remain prohibited except for emergencies, like getting vaccinated or for the movement of those employed in essential services.
Shops dealing with food, groceries, fruits and vegetables, dairy and milk booths, meat and fish, and animal fodder shall be allowed to function from 6 am to 10 am.
