Mangalore, Aug 17: Since August 14, when the news that the Bangalore policemen had arrested naxals Vinay Kumar and Devaiah, suspected to be having links with terrorists, at Hyderabad, the family of Altaf has locked its house in S Kody Basrikatte near Punaroor, Mulky and shifted elsewhere. It is suspected that the family is now living with relatives in an unknown destination.
People had seen Altaf alias Rakesh’s father, and some other members in this house till Friday last. The neighbourers, when questioned, feigned ignorance about the sudden disappearance of the family.
Altaf, who is accused of having terrorist links, is the third of six children of Abdul Khader Bawa from Basrikatte. He is a past student of Pompei College in Aikala, Kinnigoli. After college education, he was involved in a case of assault on Sadashiv Bangera, driver of a fish transport vehicle. He bagged a job in Taj Residency, Bangalore, and since the last 15 years, has remained away.
The policemen say that Altaf had come here for surrendering in 2006. After getting bail, he has remained elusive, they claim. Altaf allegedly is a henchman of Dawood Ibrahim and Chota Shakil, and is accused of making arrangements to pay money to Madoor Yousuf, for murdering Sukhanand Shetty.
The policemen had visited Altaf’s family in the past to collect details about him, but the family members said they did not know much about him, as he did not keep contact with them after leaving them 15 years ago. Altaf faces four cases including one in Kerala. It is claimed that Vinay, who was arrested by the policemen in Hyderabad, had received a sum of Rs 25 lac from Altaf.
