Udupi, Aug 17: Prof Biliyar Ramadas Bhat (80), a native of Bilyar Salmara near Shankarpura in the district, breathed his last at Bangalore on Monday August 16. He was residing with his daughter in her house in Jayanagar there. He is survived by wife, two sons, and two daughters.
Ramadas Bhat, son of Govind Bhat, secured his doctorate in mathematics and statistics from Karnatak University, after completing his post graduation. He retired after serving in the department of statistics, Karnataka University, for over two decades, during which period, he also served as the head of that department. After retirement, Bhat functioned as a visiting professor to various universities in Austrialia, Russia and USA.
He was an active member of Science Congress, and had authored works like ‘Modern Probability Theory, ‘Stochastic Models’ etc. He had also presented his essays in various international level symposiums relating to science, mathematics and statistics, and had been immensely popular in these circles because of his authoritative knowledge in these subjects.
