Mangalore. Aug 17: Renowned photographer J C Samartha died at the age of 85 in his residence on Tuesday August 17.
He founded Usha Studio in 1962 at Hampankatta here which reached great heights just like his towering personality. He was altruistic and provided jobs to many. He was the founder member and treasurer of South Kanara Photographers' Association and had co-ordial relationship with fellow professionals and photographers.
A member of Jeppu CSI Kanthi Church Pastorate Committee, he was instrumental in committee taking up good works. He had also served as a member of District Church Board. Further, he was in the Church of South India’s Executive Committee for more than two decades and served in various KSD Committees.
Samartha was the president of Protestant Christian Co-operative Society for many years. When UBMC in Dakshina Kannada and Kodagu joined CSI, Samartha was one of signatories. He was also the member of Unity Building Interdiocesan Administrative and Finance Board, Bangalore.
He leaves behind three sons, one daughter, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren besides many well-wishers.
