Mumbai, May 20: Four people were arrested for breaking into a store at Borivli and stealing 62 mobile phones worth Rs 9.5 lac. One of the accused was an employee of the store and another one was a legal advisor. The four broke into the shop with the help of the employee at the store who assisted in gaining access to the premises. The police said that all four men have been involved in crime for the first time.
The legal advisor, Ramlal Gupta (27) was finding it difficult to repay EMIs for the loan he had taken two years ago. Another accomplice Yogesh Kanaujia was to get married and was in need of money. They were close friends with Umesh Kumar who worked at the cellphone store at Borivli in the past who came up with the idea of theft. He reached out to Abhishek Pal, a current employee of the store for information.
The theft took place on May 8, when the shop was closed for business. Finding no clue from the CCTV footage in the store, the police knew the accused knew their way around very well. "They had been careful to avoid cameras," senior inspector Namdeo Shinde said. While checking other cameras with establishments close to the store, the cops were puzzled to find a grab of a man running away. They figured he was one of the thieves who accidentally entered a lane lined with cameras.
