Mangaluru, May 20: A person who the police have claimed to be a thief, was taken into custody by the police during the vehicle inspection at Padil Junction on National Highway 66 on Wednesday May 19 morning. However, another thief succeeded in giving the police a slip.

Police sub-inspector attached to Kankanady town station, Sundaer Raj, along with other staff, was engaged in checking vehicles passing by Padil Junction with the help of barricades. At 5 am on Wednesday, the police saw that two persons seated on a scooter coming from the direction of Kannur at high speed were approaching the junction. When the police signalled the vehicle to stop, the duo tried to escape. In a hurry, the scooter wheels skidded on the road. The pillion rider then ran from there, and sped away in a Suzuki Access vehicle that was parked in front of the Padil ration shop. The other who fell to the road was injured.
