Mangalore, Aug 16: The whole country, and indeed the world, is anxiously waiting for the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi to begin this October. Mangaloreans too will get an opportunity to feel part of the Games as the Queen's Baton is all set to make its way into the city on September 5.
Presiding over a meeting held to discuss preparations ahead of the arrival of the Queen's Baton relay team here on Monday August 16, deputy commissioner V Ponnuraj informed that the team would be welcomed by district in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar at Shiradi Ghat.
The relay team will consist of as many as 98 officers who will arrive in 28 vehicles, he said. The team has been touring the country to promote the event.
Mayor Rajani Dugganna will welcome the team at city's Mahavir Circle from where they will proceed to Kadri, Lalbagh, PVS and Jyothi. The city will be decorated for the rally, he added.
The procession will culminate at Town Hall where cultural programmes spanning 125 minutes will be showcased.
Various officers of the sports department, sports representatives and other officials were present.
