Mangaluru, May 19: “The ration provided under Public Distribution System (PDS) is inadequate in the state. The state government has failed to provide food grains under PDS appropriately. The government should set right the problem faced by the people,” said former minister and MLA UT Khader.
He addressing a press meet at the circuit house here on Wednesday May 19.
Speaking on availing the Covid-19 vaccination, Khader said, "Initially, the BJP MLAs should have created confidence among the public, by taking Covid-19 vaccines. The government should have provided sufficient vaccines to the people. The BJP leaders who criticise the Congress leaders should think about this.
“The state government has completely failed to help the people in the state by not providing sufficient food grains through ration during the time of this pandemic.
“Without any proper reasons, ration cards are being cancelled. People are not getting nutritious food and boiled rice. People are facing the problem after the system of availing the ration from any PDS center, with help of a single coupon was stopped,” he adding that people did not face this problem when Congress was in power.
He further said, “If the deputy commissioners (DC) are given additional power, what is the work of the minister and the MLAs? People are being misled by stating that DC has been given additional power.
“The government should focus to provide free treatment to Covid-19 patients. But now, there is variation in treatment charges in various hospitals.
"I never opposed vaccination. But, the BJP representatives should have created confidence among the public after availing the vaccine first. Instead, they are hurling allegations at others. As they had not prepared to administer vaccines to all the people, they are in trouble now. The governments should first fix the issues,” he said.
District Congress president Harish Kumar, leaders Sathish Shetty, Farook, Rafiq and others were present.
