Free treatment for black fungus in 6 places in state: DCM Ashwath Narayan

Bengaluru, May 19: Deputy Chief Minister (DCM) and Covid Task Force Chief Dr C N Ashwath Narayan on Wednesday said the State Government has started free treatment for the black fungus disease among Covid positive patients at 6 places in the State.

"The State Government has already received 1000 vials of the injections from the Centre,’’ he said promising to ensure that all steps for securing the necessary medicines for the black fungus are being taken.

He was speaking to reporters after giving the green signal for operationalizing the 20 oxygen concentrators arranged by the Bunts Association in Bengaluru for Covid patients under home isolation. Dr Narayan said efforts are being made to get more medicines for the black fungus treatment from the Centre.

Bunts Association President, Secretary Madhukar Shetty, State Handicrafts Development Corporation Chairman Raghavendra Shetty Beluru and Association’s medical wing chief Dr Nishakanth Shetty and others were present.

    It would have been better for the people if the minister has mentioned the 6 places and also their telephone numbers, as the patients do not have much time once they are detected with this black fungus.

    Free treatment for black fungus is a good and correct move, in addition steps should be taken for its prevention esp. creating awareness about control of diabetes, as black fungus(mucormycosis) has a high mortality rate.
