Panaji, Aug 17: Goa’s nightingale Lorna Cordeiro, who has 300-odd Konkani songs to her credit, will now be the part of state’s tourism itinerary.
Heritage Jazz Goa, a NGO along with Goa tourism development corporation (GTDC) and state run Tiatre Academy, has decided to host a concert on August 20, aiming to introduce Lorna to tourism world.
“Lorna is a star and we are making this star known to the world,” Armando Gonsalves of Heritage Jazz Goa told reporters here. He said that the 7 member band along with Lorna will be performing Konkani rock on the occasion of World Goa Day, a day celebrated to commemorate recognition of Konkani language into eighth schedule of Indian constitution.
Lorna, 64 year old singer who has been informally titled as nightingale of Goa, has worked with several music legends including Mohammad Rafi, will be performing in Panaji city for the first time after a gap.
Goa tourism development corporation managing director Nikhil Desai said that the corporation will be adding Lorna’s performance as an event to its tourism promotion brochure.
“We are also looking at introducing Lorna in our Goa tourism campaign as she is a well known name worldwide,” Desai said.
Gonsalves said that the event would be promoted on internet through twitter, facebook and blogs. “We will be adopting virus-style marketing. We will spread the world on the net and we appeal people to circulate the word around,” he added.
