Udupi, May 18: Udupi deputy commissioner (DC) G Jagadeesha, participated in a video conference presided over by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi, on Tuesday May 18. In addition to 17 DCs from Karnataka, chief minister B S Yediyurappa, participated in the video conference. The conference was convened to assess the Covid19 situation and its management.
The conference is held as these districts have registered a sharp increase in Covid cases. There is an abnormal increase in the deaths too. The PM discussed the issue of managing the Covid situation individually in respect of each district. The districts which participated in the video conference were Uttara Kannada, Hassan, Ballari, Mysuru, Tumakuru, Kolar, Kodagu, Bengaluru urban, Bengaluru rural, Udupi, Shivamogga, Dharwad, Dakshina Kannada, Raichur, Kalaburagi, Mandya and Chikkaballapur.
Addressing the virtual conference, PM Modi said, "Some of you have been tested positive for Covid -19 and still serving the public. You have been an inspiration for your people. Many had not been able to visit their families from several days as they are working as Covid warriors," he said.
The PM further instructed the DC to lead the team as a commander. He also advised to form gram panchayat level committees along with people's representatives and to provide information about vaccination and raise awareness on Covid. “Make arrangements for car ambulance in emergency needs and see that there is no shortage of ambulance in the district. Corona-free villages should be your motto. Increase the number of containment zones and increase testing to break the chain. Have a cordial relationship with the frontline workers, doctors, police and media and motivate them frequently. Every life in your district is precious. Do not lose them,” the PM said.
He also suggested to make use of the oxygen judiciously and said, “The management of medical oxygen is also important. It is your responsibility to build a Covid-free district. A war is declared with Covid. Do not rest until the situation is under control. People's health is of utmost importance.”
