Mangaluru, May 18: “Several crores of loss is incurred at Harekala – Adyar dam works due to the Tauktae cyclone. The matter will be brought to the notice of the state government soon,” said state minister level Nomads and semi-nomad's development board of Karnataka president K Revindra Shetty Ulidottu.
He said that water rushed into the works in progress at the dam being constructed at a cost of Rs 200 crore during the rain and storm. He inspected with the villagers the destruction caused due to incessant rain and cyclone. “I have watched the destruction from Ullal Kodi till Mogaveerapatna, Someshwara and Uchila during the visit by the district in-charge minister. The cement, steel and machinery are inundated in the water causing a loss of Rs ten crore. The first-grade contractors have been conducting the work efficiently. The machines that are damaged are being vacated swiftly,” he said.
“Let us all pray to the deity for being able to clear the debris without obstacles. May the dam be completed soon and help the villagers and farmers. I thank all the villagers for their help,” he said.
BJP Mahila Morcha district executive committee member Hemalatha Bhandary, Pavoor gram panchayat former member Vamanraj, BJP ward 9 president Kishore Safaliga, BJP Konaje Shakti centre secretary Sadashiva Acharya, Netravati Friends Club president Santhosh Poojary, Kiran Kadvinabali, Abhijith, Niketan, Sharath, Sathish Safaliga, Yogish, Santhosh, Suman, Udayakumar, VHP’s Premaraj, Nitin Rajagudde, Sharath and Ramesh were present.
“Three excavators and a crane that are stuck in the river for the last three days are being lifted swiftly. Pipe tunnels are washed away, 32 pumps, seven 125 Kv generators are washed away in the river. 7,000 cement bags, steel rods and iron centering also are washed away,” said project in-charge Gurumoorthy. “If we were informed well in advance of leaving the water, we could have moved the machinery and material aside. Water has rushed all of a sudden at 3 am on Monday causing the floods,” he said.
50 people ran away and saved lives:
“50 workers were sleeping in a temporary shed at the site. As the water gushed at 3 am towards us, all of us ran and reached the shore. Crores worth machinery and material were inundated as the water was left without informing us. We are trying to retrieve the items now, “said worker, West Bengal resident Ripul Sharkar.
