Mumbai, May 17: Jaya C Suvarna who was active in Rashtreeya Billava Maha Mandala, Billavara Association Mumbai, Bharath bank, Gejjegiri temple committee Nandana Bittal and Lalita R Charitable Trust had passed away on October 21, 2020. If he was alive, he would have turned 75 on May 15, this year.
He was born as the son of Udupi Padubidri residents Chandu Poojary and Achu Poojarthi on May 15, 1946. He completed his primary school education at Adve and higher education at Chinai College, Andheri east. He got into entrepreneurship and owned Jayaprakash Hotel, Goregaon in 1974. He was a born leader and built Billava Bhavan with the support of community members and the rich. He took community leaders, politicians and officials into confidence and introduced the Bharath co-operative bank to the world.
He was the recipient of Udyoga Ratna award from the Institute of economic studies, Samaja Ratna from Billava community members, Pingara Rajyotsava award, Karnataka Rajyotsava award from the Karnataka state government and several other awards considering his achievements.
