Udupi, May 16: State home, law and parliamentary affairs minister, Basavaraj Bommai, who is also the district in-charge minister for Udupi, advised the district administration to efficiently handle cyclone Tauktae and ensure that it does not cause any danger to the district. He also told the officials to make judicious use of Rs 60 crore grant allocated to the district for this purpose.

He gave these instructions at a meeting he held with the district administration and peopls representatives of the district which he addressed from Benglauru on Saturday May 15 through video conferencing facility.

"The cyclone is expected to have adverse effect on the district for four daysas per the predictions made by the meteorological department. Therefore, close vigil has to be kept in the coastal areas,people living close to the sea have to be shifted to safer places and provided with food and other needy things," he said.

Bommai said that a team would be dispatched from Bengaluru to handle dangers posed by the cyclone and to rescue people facing peril. He advises the police, coastal security force, and the fire personnel to work in close coordination to tackle the cyclone and minimise its impact. He said that a sum of Rs 60 crore has already been given to the deputy commissioner from the state disaster response fund and asked the same to be utilised properly.

He noted that districts like Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru,Kodagu and Hassan,which are close to the costal districts, also might come under the influence of the cyclone. He asked the officials to make advance preparations to handle any kind of eventualities and danger.

Covid19: The minister urged the officials to give high importance to covid control in the district and avail of the beds which the private hospitals have to provide to the government. He also wanted them to properly handle oxygen supply and make proper use. The minister advised them to shift people who have been cure to covid care centres and use the beds which become so available for the infected people suffering from serious symptoms.

MP, Shobha Karandlaje, MLAs, Sunil Kumar Lalaji R Mendon, deputy commissioner of the district, G Jagadeesha, zilla panchayat chief executive officer Dr Naveen Bhat, superintendent of police,Vishnuvardhan, additional deputy commissioner, Sadashiva Prabhu, district health officer, Dr Sudhir Chandra Sooda and others were present.
