Mangaluru/Udupi/Kundapur, May 15: Torrential rains wreaked havoc across Mangaluru, Udupi and Kundapur on Saturday May 15.
As many as 15 families from Ullal and 50 families Someshwara were shifted to safe place following sea erosion due the effect of cyclone Tauktae.
One house at Uchila and two houses at Someshwara were washed away into the sea. Heavy rain following gusty wind were witnessed in the coast. After 11 am, the sea was very rough with high tides. Following heavy wind, several trees and electric poles were uprooted.

Water rough sea, water entered into 40 houses in Kudru. The families were shifted to safe area by the officers of Ullal town municipal council, locals and police staff.
As many as 50 families were shifted to safe areas by boats.
Water entered around 40 to 50 houses near Battappady in Kudru of Someshwara town muncipal council. Officials of the council who responded to the distress calls, shifted 40 families with help of locals to Darulsalam near Uchila railway gate. A few returned to their houses of their relatives.
Houses of Mohan and Yogish near Someshwara temple, house of Tharanath Master in Uchilla got washed away into the sea. All three families were shifted to their relatives’ residences.
A crematorium was washed away into sea following heavy tides. A retaining wall also got washed away due to the high tides. Locals alleged that illegal sand mining has resulted this tragedy.
Uchilla service road on NH 66 was completely inundated due to heavy rain.
Minster for Fisheries and Port S Angara vested the spot. He also vested cyclone affected areas Mogaveerapatna, Battappady, Somehwara, and house of Mohan.

Tauktae cyclone has shown its effect in Padukere, Malpe, Mattu, Maravante and other parts of coastal belt in Udupi district on Saturday May 15.
Udupi MLA Raghupati Bhat visited residential areas in Padukere where the sea water broke the fisheries road and entered homes. Arrangements for rehabilitation have been made in Malpe Yelur Mogaveera hall. Bhat has convinced the residents of Padukere to shift to these rehabilitation centres. More than 60 fishermen families are in danger in Malpe. Water has entered the households after crossing over through the concrete roads.
More than 8 boats have been damaged due to the cyclone caused havoc in Malpe. Fishermen have shifted most of the boats to safer places using crane even during the cyclone. More damage is expected if the wind and rains continue in the same pace. Red alert is issued in the district for Sunday also.
Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlanje along with Kaup MLA Lalaji Mendon visited the cyclone affected areas of Kaup, Padubidri and Muloor.
Cyclone affected rain has created havoc in Barkur area too.
One life was lost in the cyclone affected wind and rain in Kaup taluk. Four houses in Brahmavar, three houses in Byndoor and one house in Udupi taluk is damaged. More than 50 coconut trees are uprooted all over the district.
In a media statement, deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha said, "Udupi district is witnessing heavy rains due to the cyclone. The sea shore areas are largely affected which has come to my notice. I have instructed all the tahsildars to be prepared. They will initiate to build rehabilitation centres for those affected due to the rains. People can contact their respective tahsildar for assistance.”
“Four families in Byndoor have been evacuated to Uppunda junior college rehabilitation centre whereas 7 families in Kundapur and one family in Kaup have been shifted to their relatives houses. Around 60 people in Kodi have been shifted to rehabilitation centre opened in Kodi school premise. Arrangements have been made for the public in Kaup also for rehabilitation,” he said.
Former MLA Vinay Kumar Sorkae also visited the affected areas of Kaup taluk. He instructed the officials to take necessary action on priority and assured assistance to the locals.

Due to effect of Tauktae cyclone in the coast, incessant rain lashed with heavy wind and sea erosion continued in Gangolli, Maravanthe and surrounding areas in the taluk on Saturday.
High tides from the sea has affected the fishing boats in the coast.
As many as 15 coconut trees belonging to Sanjeeva Kharvi in Kanchugodu surrounding of Hosadu village washed away into the sea due to sea erosion.
It is also said that Sanjeeva Kharvi's residence is also in the verge of danger. In the same surroundings, more than 10 houses of fisher folk community is facing danger. Two fishing boats were damaged due to high tides.
High waves are crashing into the shores at Belikere, Malyarabettu, Kharvikeri, Lighthouse, Santhaiahanakere of Gangolli village.
High tides are crossing across the sea wall constructed to prevent sea erosion and water is gushing towards residential areas. Fishermen have shifted their fishing boats to secure places. Fishing nets and their sheds have been washed away into the sea.
As many as 8 to 9 houses are facing danger due to sea erosion in Bengerre in Gujjadi village.
MLA Sukumar Shetty, subdivision officer K Raju, tahsildar Anandappa Naik, Kundapur taluk panchayat EO Keshava Shettigar, Vandse hobli revenue inspector Raghavendra Devadiga, Gangolli Primary Fishermen Cooperative Association Sadhashiva Kharvi and local representatives visited the sea erosion spot for inspection.
Sukumar Shetty said, "Due to the effect of the cyclone, people have sustained huge losses from Gangolli to Shiroor. It is been directed to take necessary measures in regards to the safety of people. Information on loses and damages of property will brought to the notice of the chief minister and district in-charge minister. The CM will be urged to provide compensation and to take immediate measures."
