Udupi, May 14: Vishwavallabha Theertha Swamiji of Sode Math installed the 16-year-old Anirudh Saralathaya as the 31st successor of Shiroor math. The religious ritual of 'Shishya Sweekara' was held on Friday, May 14.
On the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya, Swamiji performed the coronation of the newly anointed Anirudh at Shiroor Math here. As per the tradition of the Math, Anirudh was renamed 'Sri Vedavardhana Theertha'.
The religious rituals like Purusha Sukta Homam, Viraja Homa and Veda Vyasa Mantra was led by Avadhani Subramanya Bhat Gundibail, Giriraja Upadhyaya and Gururaj Bhat.
The coronation ceremony was held at 12.35 pm on Friday. Then Sode Math Swamiji announced Anirudh's name on the occasion.
Vedavardhana Swamiji renamed from Anirudh is the son of Uday Kumar Saralathaya and Vidya from Nidle, Beltangady. He has completed his SSLC education and will be continuing his Vedic education at Sirsi Sonda.
The newly anointed pontiff of Shiroor Math also visited Sri Krishna Math along with Sode Math Swamiji where they took the Lord's blessings. Sri Eshapriya Theertha Swamiji welcomed and congratulated him. Before entering the Krishna Math, he did a circumambulation (Parikrama) of Anantheshwara and Chandramouleshwara temple.
A procession was also carried out from Sanskrit College to Krishna Math for Vedavardhana Swamiji.
Vedavardhana Swamiji entered Shiroor Math, where he received a grand welcome from devotees. He offered his respects to Swamiji's of Ashta Mathas.
Sri Eshapriya Theertha Swamiji, Admar Math, Vamana Theertha, Lokaguru Madhwacharya, Maha Samsthana Sri Vishwavallabha Theertha Swamiji, Sode Math blessed him for the future.
Padigaru Srinivasa Tantri, Sode Math, Govindraju, manager, Admar math, Lakshmi Bhat, Rohith Bhat, Rohit Tanthri, Y N Ramachandra Rao and Uday Saralathaya were present.
Following the demise of the head pontiff, Sri Lakshmivara Theertha Swamiji in 2018, the Peetha of Shiroor Math laid vacant. After which, Sode Math Swamiji had taken the initiative of appointing a new seer for math.
