Mangaluru, May 13: Taking on the opposition for criticising the union and state government over the Covid-19 crisis, BJP state unit president and MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said that this is not the situation to play politics, instead, increase confidence among the people in the state and boost the confidence of the people to take precautionary health measures to contain the spread of the deadly virus.
He was speaking to media persons at the circuit house on Friday, May 14.
He said, “The help centre set up to face the second wave of Covid-19 by Dakshina Kannada BJP along with other service-oriented organisation has received 2,000 phone calls. The helpline provided 100 ambulance service and 70 people were admitted to the hospital. As many as 433 medical kits were distributed, ICU and ventilator services were arranged for 42 patients and 34 Covid-19 victims were given a decent burial.
“As many as 1,15,662 persons have received the first dose of vaccination, and 39,548 people have received the second dose in the district (above 60 years). As many as 1,14,287 have received the first dose of vaccination and 12,419, the second dose of vaccination (45-59 years). A total of 1,802 people have received the first dose of vaccination (from 18-44 years).
"People who criticized BJP's vaccination programme are claiming they have not been vaccinated. However, as per data 19 crore people have been inoculated.
“The district has received 30 ventilators under PM-Cares Fund, 24 ventilators from donors, and 32 ventilators from the state government. The ventilators have been increased from 12 to 86. From the MP-LAD fund, Rs 2.5 crore has been sanctioned to the district administration. I have requested the chief minister to allot 100 ventilators, of which, already 40 ventilators have been sanctioned.
“The Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) will establish a 93-litre oxygen production unit in Wenlock, Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilizers Limited (MCF) will establish 80-litre oxygen production unit in ESI and Bantwal taluk hospitals, GAIL and GAIL Gas will set up an oxygen production unit in Puttur and Beltangady taluk, KIDCL will set up oxygen production units in Uppinangady and Moodbidri. Infosys has come forward to set up a crematorium in Ullal. SEZ has come forward to provide free ambulance service in the district,” he said.
Nalin also said that when the government announced vaccination for below 45 years, the opposition criticised and led to unnecessary confusion among people, thus misleading the public. "This is not the time for politics. Instead of politicising the situation, the opposition should cooperate to tackle the situation," he said.
