Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, May 14: Prof Jayanth, retired chemistry professor of St Agnes College here, left for heavenly abode on Thursday May 13 due to heart attack.

During his tenure in the city of over three decades, Prof Jayanth had inspired many people from the city to get interested in astronomy. He used to introduce his students and other interested people to the wonders of the sky like eclipses and comets. For this purpose, he had hired a house at Saripalla some distance away from the city where he used to unfold the mysteries of the celestial world for the benefit of the people. He used to conduct a number of activities through Mangalore Amateur Astronomers Association and was always active.

Prof Jayanth had interests in a number of different fields including music, Yakshagana, play, trekking etc. He used to be always friendly and frank person even with people who were much younger to him. He was a simple and noble man. Through activities like Sunday Science School, he organized a number of experiments to teach science to the children in its real sense for many years.

The late professor's personality of a man with a bag hanging from his shoulder, a single fold umbrella, eyeglasses with square frame, smiling and peaceful demeanour stands etched in the minds of his fans and students. His students say that even after he parted ways with them, his lifestyle will continue to provide them guidance and inspiration throughout their lives.

No word can express the loss of Dr. Jayanth being no more with us. He is the most balanced inside out person. Met him as my husbands best friend and the love and respect he showed brings only tears now. Very unique person filled with just positivity and love towards everyone. Can never forget the strength he showed while hiking, depth in his knowledge, passion towards science and love towards human kind. Jayanth and Navarathna always showed up as two peas in a pod. Praying for strength and hoping the memories he left behind bring peace to his children Dr. Sangeetha and Amrita!

I am really shocked to read the sudden demise of my dear friend & ex-colleague, Dr. Jayant. I have no words to express the loss of a great man. He was a brilliant Chemist & a highly dedicated teacher. We joined St. Agnes college in the late 70's & then I went to Australia for my PhD. We used to have many discussions on Science, Philosophy, & literature. He never changed even after four decades of working at St.Agnes College, which a great Educational Institution. He was a soft spoken, simple & kind man. We continued to be in touch even after I moved to USA. I truly miss a great friend & a kind human being. May his Kind Soul Rest In Peace🙏. I pray to God to give strength to Mrs. Jayant & his children to bear the loss my friend.

Very very sad to hear the sudden demise of Prof Jayanth. A very simple and humble man. Being a chemistry Professor his interest in astronomy is far beyond our reach. Any programs related to astronomy like gazing stars, planets , he is always ready to spend whole night with us with telescope. I am really fortunate to learn many information from him . I pray the almighty to grant eternal life to him and my heartfelt condolences to his family.
