Mangaluru, May 13: A delegation led by MLA Vedavyasa Kamath, met Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary on Wednesday May 12 and urged him to extend the time given for the procurement of essentials during the morning hours in the city as part of the lockdown imposed for coronavirus control.
The delegation sought to extend the time given for purchase of essentials by one hour. Currently, the people have been allowed to buy things they need between 6 am and 9 am, but many shops in the city open only after 7 am, which curtails time available for the people to buy things, the petition presented to the minister pointed out. Therefore, the delegation requested the minister to modify the lockdown rules suitably specifically for the city.

In the memorandum presented to the minister, the delegation sought permission to move about for the bank employees, those visiting banks or post offices for different needs, beedi workers, beedi entrepreneurs, hotel workers, building workers and such other classes of workers subject to verification by the police. Another demand placed before the minister is to allow senior citizens to use vehicles to bring things they need as they find it difficult to walk to the shops and bring heavy things home. It also explained that distribution of ration items in fair price shops takes more time.
The minister, who received the memorandum, promised to scrutinize the demands and take steps accordingly, said the MLA.
The delegation had Karnataka State Fisheries Development Corporation chairman Nitin Kumar, BJP district president Sudarshan M, BJP city south Mandal president Vijay Kumar Shetty, and leaders like Sanjay Prabu and Vasant K Poojary as members.
