Udupi, May 12: Autorickshaw drivers in the city have come forward to provide special service during the pandemic. A team of auto drivers have decided to ferry the corona-infected people to hospitals. This gesture has garnered wide appreciation by the people.
The coronavirus has made it difficult for people to transport their dear ones to hospitals, especially in situations when ambulance services are stretched beyond any relief due to the surge in cases. The current situation has made transporting the sick to the hospital a challenge. To help people in need during such distressing situation, Krishnamurthy Acharya and his team have come forward to offer free service in Udupi and other nearby rural areas.
Under the aegis of Yashoda Auto Union, Krishnamurthy Acharya and his team have launched this service for corona-infected patients.
Speaking on the occasion one of the drivers Suresh said, “We will always be ready to help people struggling due to the pandemic. We will operate in Udupi and the nearby villages. We will transport the sick to the hospital if anyone reaches out to us over a phone call. It is a free service and we do not expect anything in return."
The auto drivers are willing to help regardless of the timing. The district administration is also supportive of their noble work.
“The service will be also available in Dendoorkatte, Manipura, Kadekar, Ambalapady and Kidiyoor,” social activist Krishnamurthy Acharya said.
The auto drivers involved in this selfless work are also taking necessary measures to ensure their safety and well-being by wearing masks and frequently washing their hands.
