Kaup, May 12: After learning that an illegal slaughterhouse was operating behind Sunni Center of Muloor village near the residence of Abbu Muhammed, Kaup police sub-inspector, Raghavendra C, who was on rounds to enforce curfew guidelines on Tuesday May 11, raided the spot along with other staff.
The police saw that a pick-up van was parked near the spot, and four calves were tethered near the house. At the sight of the police, people tried to run away. Six among them were taken into custody. The arrested persons have been identified as Mansoor Ahmed alias Ahmed Mansoor, Muhammed Azharuddin, Nawaz, Muhammed Haneef alias Asfaq, Muhammed Ismail and Ummarabba. Ismail, Rafique and Abbu Muhammed escaped. The police personnel learnt under instructions from Ismail they had stolen calves which were straying on the road out of which one had been slaughtered.
Four calves, about 30 kg beef, big aluminium utensil, weighing scale and several other items including scooters were confiscated, A case under the anti-slaughter law was registered at Kaup police station and case under Karnataka Prohibition of Cow Slaughter Act and Indian Penal Code was registered
