Bangalore, Aug 12: Irrigation minister, Basavaraj Bommai, stated that the state government plans to supply water to the districts like Chickballapur, Kolar and Bangalore Rural districts, which are situated in the plains, from a rivulet flowing in the malnad region towards the coast. The water is planned to be diverted from Yettinahole rivulet flowing through the Western Ghats.
Bommai expressed the confidence that the people of the coast and malnad regions of the state will not oppose this plan. “About 8.5 tmc of water gets drained into the sea from Yettinahole. Once the survey report is ready, discussions will be held with the technical committee and legal team. The water is proposed to be supplied through pipes,” he explained.
He hoped that people will understand the need to supply drinking water to parched regions, adding that the people living in the state’s coast will understand this and cooperate with the state government.
About the opposition to Upper Bhadra Project from people living near Tarikere, he said that the people have been made to understand the problem, and opposition has since died down.
