Mangaluru, May 11: “There is a scarcity of Covaxin and Covishield vaccines which are being administered at the district Wenlock hospital. The people who have received the first dose have to be administered the second dose on priority within the stipulated period. But Mangaluru south MLA Vedavyasa Kamath is eluding the rule and interfering to vaccinate those he likes. It is unjust for those who have received the first shot. The interference should be stopped,” alleged former MLA J R Lobo.
Addressing media on Tuesday May 11, he said, “If the second dose is not administered within the time limit for those who have already received the first dose, the vaccination becomes futile. Only 350 doses of vaccine were received in the district on Monday. Those should have been administered for people who have already received their first dose. There is political interference for vaccinating supporters on priority instead.
“Instead of such interference, let the MLA show his capacity by getting vaccines for all. The Congress party will have to intervene to stop the interference.
“There is a huge contribution of Congress party MLAs and ministers in the growth of Wenlock hospital. Therefore, it has progressed as the hospital that caters to the needs of thousands of patients from four districts and two states. The statement by MLA Vedavyasa Kamath stating that there is no contribution of Congress in it shows his ignorance. Let him state what was his contribution after becoming the MLA. The district hospital has not received any contribution from him worth considering. The all-round development project, Rs 15 crore worth super-specialty block, 50 Bed AYUSH building and several other developments are the contribution of Congress. The blocks were renovated during the term of Congress party minister and MLA. The then MLA Yogish Bhat had taken some initiative but the current MLA was not involved. He has also not taken any interest in development even after becoming the MLA. We are willing to face his questions in this respect,” he said.
Corporation opposition leader Vinayraj and Congress office bearers Subhod Alva, Mohammed Kunjathbail, Prakash Salian, Vishwas Das, Sathish Shetty, T K Sudhir, Ashraf, Samshuddin, Ramananda, Yogish, Neeraj Pal and others were present.
