Mangaluru, May 10: A youth from Ranipet in Madikeri had come to Mangaluru on May 1 in search of employment. Although he stayed in the city for five days, he neither found a job nor could go back to Madikeri due to the clampdown on transport facilities due to the Covid-induced lockdown.
A journalist had reported about the youth of how, in order to reach home, he had begun walking from Mangaluru to Madikeri. The youth is said to have been starving for two days. He would reportedly consume the half-eaten fruits left behind by birds.

His plight was noticed by police constables Dayanand and Kiran who were on duty at Puttur, Santyar checkpost. The police personnel lent the youth a helping hand by giving him food from their lunch boxes and sending him back to Madikeri in a vehicle.
The noble work of these constables garnered a lot of praise.
