Streets in Udupi wear deserted look as lockdown comes into force

Udupi, May 10: The citizens responded well to the lockdown which began in district on Monday May 10. Superintendent of police Vishnuvardhan himself was on the field at check post in Kalsanka and created awareness among public.

Police were busy in checking vehicles as they started work early the morning at 6 am.

In comparison to last week, public has supported the lockdown this week by remaining at their homes. Only health department staffs, some people who got permission from their movement for their duty, and government officials were seen on the road.

People were busy in the morning itself at the markets in order to purchase essential commodities. Milk parlours and hotels are kept open.

The busy national highways, Santhekatte Manipal-Udupi main road, K M Road, Chitharanjan Circle, Tiger Circle and Diana Road wore a deserted look.

There was no restriction for the movement of goods vehicles, government service vehicles and ambulances. The government and private bus stand were empty. Some destitute were seen in the bus stands.

Four main borders in the district which allow inter-district and interstate movement are closed. As many as 29 check posts operate in the day and 19 check posts in the night. People are allowed to come out of their homes only in case of health emergency.

    It has always been like this in twin districts since are all are educated. But tomorrow you can show photos of people breaking atleast social distancing rules since with our population and lack of shops it's impossible.
