Mangaluru: Private vehicles allowed till 9 am if necessary, clarifies police commissioner

Mangaluru, May 9: Police commissioner N Shashi Kumar on Sunday May 9 clarified that people are allowed to use their vehicles to fetch essentials before 9 am from Monday May 10 onwards until the lockdown is in effect.

The state government has imposed a strict lockdown beginning May 10 for two weeks.

However, there was confusion among a section of the public regarding use of private vehicles to buy essentials and food parcels, and going to work where permitted.

Clarifying on the matter, the police commissioner told the media, "It has come to my notice that there is some confusion among people regarding three issues. First, about use of private vehicles to fetch essentials between 6 am and 9 am. As much as possible, buy your essentials from shops in your neghbourhood. You can use your vehicles if necessary." As per the order, there is no restriction on using private vehicles from 6 am to 9 am.

"Secondly, the guidelines clearly state that private vehicles cannot be used to go out and buy food parcels for any reason. Kindly follow this order," he said. Food parcels can only be delivered by restaurants themselves or by delivery agents of food aggregators like Swiggy and Zomato.

The police commissioner further said, "Thirdly, the district administration and the industries department have instructed industries within Mangaluru and outskirts to arrange vehicles to ferry their employees themselves. Arrangements have already been made in this regard. Wherever it has not been possible to arrange company vehicles, employees can show their id proofs and travel in their private vehicles."

Total confusion, absolutely no coordination between the administration; few days ago final guidelines were issued for this lockdown by CM office which said the open timing will be from 6-10AM?? Now whom to listen? There is a saying in hindi (sorry for quoting): "Andher Nagri Aur Chaupat Raja"!

Govt want to do more scams now.. and why police have to seize ones private vehicle if he is using to buy essentials?? Police and politicians are public servants, if people keep quiet for such things, then days are not far when these politicians and police will come to your house and throw you out of house..

Police commissioner N Shashi Kumar on Sunday May 9 clarified that people are allowed to use their vehicles to fetch essentials before 9 am from Monday May 10 onwards until the lock down is in effect It is expedient that people follow the guidelines in their own interests to start with and also in the interests of the Public. The Police Commissioner and the Police Department has passed these rules in the interest of the Public. It is therefore very necessary for the people to understand the situation and follow the ruling.

It is essential for people to use their own vehicles to buy any essentials as they can buy & get back faster than waiting for rented vehicles. but the timing isn't right unless extended till 12. If people have any govt. office work then they have to wait for a fortnight? Instead of limited restrictions in those affected areas blanket implementation in the whole state is draconian Tughluk Model people are forced to endure. Better let people take care of their health, govt. needs to step back, then only herd immunity can be achieved faster instead of postponing infections for a future date

And what about Udupi? Why is the DC so confused regarding the guidelines? Why is it prohibited for people in Udupi to use private vehicles from 6am - 10 am? What will people from far away places who do not have shops near their homes do? Please clarify if it's allowed to take private vehicles in the morning or not?
