Mangaluru: Stringent action against violators of Covid guidelines, warns police commissioner

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (DV)

Mangaluru, May 9: Mangaluru city police commissioner N Shashi Kumar on Sunday, May 9 called upon people to strictly adhere to the Covid-19 guidelines issued by the government to contain the spiking cases of infection in the state.

The commissioner had received various suggestions from the public for containing the spread of the virus in a virtual session which included a conversation on Covid. Speaking with regard to this on live interaction with the public on Facebook, he said, "People in Mangaluru are paying heed to the government order, 99% of the people in the city are following Covid-19 guidelines. We have taken appropriate measures in case of a violation of the guidelines. Especially, under the city limits, we have not exerted force on the public. But, sometimes the department will have to resort to stringent measures to disperse the public or against violators."

He also said that police staff deployed at checkpost or patrol units are working on humanitarian grounds.

"Travellers coming from the railway stations and airport can use their tickets as passes. In case of violation, we have booked cases and seized the vehicles."

Commissioner also said that he has directed the police personnel to follow Covid appropriate behaviour. He further said that there are instances where police staff has helped the senior citizens in availing medical treatment with the use of department vehicles.

On a query that whether a person can travel from Bengaluru to Mangaluru, the commissioner said that if it is a genuine reason, it will be allowed. But, if it is found that the reason is not valid, the person will be booked and the vehicle will be seized.

On the question of whether plumbers or electrician are allowed to travel, the commissioner said that in case of emergency, the provision will be made for the movement.

On a suggestion to deploy home guards, Shashi Kumar said, "We have deployed 150 home guards in the city. We have written to the district administration requesting to provide 75 additional home guards."

After a few people suggested extending the relaxation timings to 12 pm for the purchase of essential items, the commissioner said that the police department will strictly be working as per the guidelines by the state government and district administration. Medical store owners and staff will be allowed to travel. Walking, jogging in public places and parks are strictly prohibited. Commissioner also confirmed that the police department has not issued any passes to the public. Passes that are not official in nature will be prohibited. He also said during such a crisis people should help each other.

Responding to a complaint that security at Wenlock is misleading the patients on the basis of religion, the commissioner asked complainants to share information so that necessary action will be taken against them.

Commissioner also congratulated and thanked frontline workers like doctors, nurses, municipal workers, staff of the police department for their service during the pandemic. He reiterated that the public should strictly follow the Covid-19 guidelines and stay at home.

I think this is meaninglessness Janata Yaddi Curfew. Now 3rd Wave is on the way it seems. If we get up lately means gone case. I think that give consumers one day time to buy all essential commodities atleast for one month. It should be total black out type. No Temple, mosques, churches and other place were devotees gathering. No milk, no paper. Nothing will happen. We can drive away this Corona virus all joining together. Administration must supply all EMERGENCY service to those need very badly to doorstep( Mobilenumber, help linenumber). If no milk, paper nothing will happen for one month. Definently some will differ my point. My intention is to drive away Corona virus and back to normal.

The lockdown does not take into account the needs of the homebound elders and sick people who depend on others for their life. This is an arrogant and draconian implementation of supposedly life saving measures with all threats being issued all the time.

Sir people will definitely follow the guidelines given by state head; but fact is that community spread has already taken place and now the migrants who have run away to their home places in droves, in rural areas, will spread it there! Many informal sector workers who have finished their savings are now seling the family gold to run their houses & pay EMIs & bills; they are on the verge of begging!

No need to worry about rural areas, virus won't spread easily as there is no crowd. Impose lockdown in above 50 k populated areas, leave villages to function as usual, with minor curbs.

Police should take strict action against companies like Gail gas who are misusing the tag of essential services and flouting the rules of Covid. They are sending their person in field you are suspected Covid. This poise great danger to the people nearby. It is likely possible they are covid chain is not breaking due to this. Some companies are asking their full manpower to attend when state has asked for minimum manpower.

As a suggestion is it possible to have mobile ambulance to administer covid vaccine for senior citizens. District administration can prepare area wise chart and make public announcement about their vaccination drive visit in following areas. When it comes to senior citizens , they have to be taken to vaccination center and along with them minimum one or two person will accompany. May be we can avoid this . Ambulance can be kept at particular location for say one hour and than move on to next location , likewise.

What are the exact guidelines? It is all so confusing! If a person needs to get his tooth extracted due to extreme pain can he visit a hospital? What proof can he show before visiting the Dentist? Can single person travel in car to the city wearing mask and carrying sanitizer? If anybody is aware of the protocol in place, please do respond.

Milk booth will remain open till 6:00 pm, but you are not allowed to to go till milk booth after 9:00 am, that too by walk, cannot use any vehicle. I do not understand the logic. In private vehicle a person is more safer than going by walk.
