Mangaluru, May 8: Surathkal police have detained a person in connection with the case of threatening a minor boy and forcefully demanding him to fetch gold from his home.
The detained person is identified as Ranjith.
In a dramatic twist to case of a minor boy being robbed of gold at knifepoint, the police department cracked the case and unfolded the drama.
It is said that Ranjith had shot a video of the minor boy while smoking a cigarette in Madhya under Surathkal police station limits. After shooting the video, he also threatened the boy to get Rs 20,000 cash from his home, if failed to do so, he will circulate the said video to his parents. In fear, the boy to avoid getting caught by his parents, brought a few sovereigns of gold from his home, as he did not find any cash at home and handed it over to Ranjith. The incident was reported in the month of April in the temple hall at Madhya in Surathkal.

After collecting the gold from the boy, Ranjith mortgaged the same twice at private finance and collected several thousands of money.
As the incident came to notice of the minor boy's parents, the boy plotted a 'dramatic' story to convince his parents and informed them that he gave the gold because Ranjith threatened him at knifepoint. When parents approached the police station, the entire episode got enfolded after the accused and the minor boy confessed to the police.
DCP (L&O) Hariramshankar confirmed the incident.
According to police sources, the parents of the minor boy are not ready to file the complaint as the accused was also their neighbour.
