Kasargod, May 8: Complete lockdown for nine days is implemented in the state in Kerala of rising cases of coronavirus pandemic. The police are in full swing throughout the district to curb unnecessary movement of vehicles and people.

People are voluntarily supporting the lockdown by not venturing out. Only a handful of vehicles are seen on the road. Police are checking these vehicles also. Those who are roaming on streets without any genuine reason are being sent back to their homes. Vehicles that do not have proper documents are being confiscated and fined. Only those carrying police pass and emergency certificates are allowed to move.

Shops selling essential items are allowed to operate. Grocery, fruits, vegetables, milk, meat and fish sellers are allowed to function. Only parcel service is allowed in hotels and restaurants. Public transport is completely stalled. Hotels and shops are allowed to be kept open from 6 am to 7.30 pm. Banks can operate three days in a week from 10 am to 1 pm. Garages can be opened on the last two days of the week.

Devotees are prohibited from visiting places of worship. Only 50 people are allowed in pre-planned marriages. There is no scope to open wine shops. Goods vehicles are allowed to operate. Those who are arriving from outstation states to Kerala should register themselves on Covid awareness portal and be in home quarantine for 14 days.

Checking is being done at 17 borders in the district including Talapady. Seven roads are closed for traffic. At other places, checking is conducted with the help of gram panchayat members as per the information given by SP P B Rajiv.
