Mangaluru, May 8: The officials of town planning department of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) visited the spot at Padavinangady where a bike rider lost his life while trying to avoid colliding against a scooter. The CCTV footage video of the accident which took place on Friday May 8 had gone viral on social media.
The officials are planning to construct footpaths by modifying the steps of the grocery store. The owner of the shop had given two cents of his land for road construction in the year 2010.
The MCC officials also got the bush cleared which had grown on the divider which was blinding commuters’ path.
Accident zone
The area at Perlaguri near Padavinangady is an accident prone area which has caused several accidents. The bushes on the divider at the curve also pose danger as vehicles coming from the other direction are not visible.
Locals also allege that the two spaces between the divider within the gap of 100 meters look unscientific and the curve poses danger as vehicles come in at high speed in that region. Due to lockdown, the traffic is less and vehicles travel at high speed.
Two months ago, a car had rammed into a parked vehicle at the same spot and the occupants in the car had a miraculous escape.
After the accident video went viral, MCC received severe backlash on social media with #wake up MCC trending.
