Mangaluru, May 8: The officials of town planning department of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) visited the spot at Padavinangady where a bike rider lost his life while trying to avoid colliding against a scooter. The CCTV footage video of the accident which took place on Friday May 8 had gone viral on social media.

The officials are planning to construct footpaths by modifying the steps of the grocery store. The owner of the shop had given two cents of his land for road construction in the year 2010.

The MCC officials also got the bush cleared which had grown on the divider which was blinding commuters’ path.

Accident zone

The area at Perlaguri near Padavinangady is an accident prone area which has caused several accidents. The bushes on the divider at the curve also pose danger as vehicles coming from the other direction are not visible.

Locals also allege that the two spaces between the divider within the gap of 100 meters look unscientific and the curve poses danger as vehicles come in at high speed in that region. Due to lockdown, the traffic is less and vehicles travel at high speed.

Two months ago, a car had rammed into a parked vehicle at the same spot and the occupants in the car had a miraculous escape.

After the accident video went viral, MCC received severe backlash on social media with #wake up MCC trending.

Can someone appeal the MCC to cutoff all the plants in the Divider. That is the main reason for accidents to take place. It is not only in Padavinangadi but also other parts of Mangalore like Ladyhill to Kottarachowki road. It is difficult for the Pedestrians and Drivers to see each other if there is a turning point. Also there should be speed breakers installed on every entry and exit of the Divider to avoid problems. Especially the Bikers always fly on air and fail to apply breaks whenever necessary.

I live across the site of the accident and always felt it’s an accident prone zone. It’s a poorly designed junction with a slight bend, so vehicles on the main road don’t slow down sufficiently and vehicles looking to get to the main road use both the gaps on the dividers as per their own convince which makes it risky especially late evenings. Also there needs to be a proper footpath which can act as a barrier along the road which this locality lacks.

Punish the Scotty guy who saw the accident turning back and ran away. Also speed breakers must be installed even if it’s airport road. People should not rush even to the airport. Very sad young soul is gone away from this world. May his soul Rest In Peace.

As far as we see officials or Govt's or Dept's eyes open after an incident happens. No maintenance. This incident could have been avoided if the road was maintained ( Unwanted bush at the divider ) May his soul rest in peace.

From their body language ,,we know that they have decided on some silly easy pickings ..without actually trying to solve the problem from 360 degree perspective .. This is the difference between a corrupt mindset and a developed nation ? Hope I am wrong.

Question yet remains, howmany accidents have occured in the past on that spot to inspect only after this accident and that too for the mistakes of both the riders. Scooterwala was came in the middle and bikewala was on overspeed on wrong side so one of them has to be paid off...

Scooter rider should be identified, located and booked for causing accident. Also his licence should be verified. It is mainly the scooterist who is responsible for the loss of life.He also did not have audacity to wait and help the injured. Severe punishment should be meted out to him.

When we have a exit, why do not we have a scientifically designed speed breaker before the exit. If there was a speed breaker the rider who lost his life, who was speeding would have slowed down and saved his life.

The break in the road divider should not have been near the cross road connecting to the main road. This allows the vehicles to enter the main road at right angle añd go across. This shiuld be prevented.

Remove the advertising boards and grass from the dividers . It's very difficult to see vehicles coming from opposite direction. Check the entire stretch from KPT to Kavoor .

The stretch from Kadri Park to Kavoor is the best road in Mangalore, as I used to commute when I was staying near Kavoor. Only option to limit the speed (keep the speed @70) and fine the drivers. This also bring additional income to traffic dept. Also constructing more Humps with visible painting/ marking (most of the humps in Mangalore does not have colour). Without proper colour the humps will cause more bad than good.

In my opinion the steps constructed are illegal. As per rules there has to be a 6 feet gap between the shop and the road. The steps have no room in such a scenario.

Lack of proper planning is the reason.
