Mangalore Aug 10: Dakshina Kannada (DK) district panchayat public education department and DK district panchayat Urdu Higher Primary School jointly organized minority linguistic educational institution district-level Urdu cultural competitions on Tuesday August 10.
DK district panchayat president Santhosh Kumar Bhandary inaugurated the programme.
In his inaugural address Bhandary said that the students participating in the competition should try and get selected to the state-level competitions. DK district being active in every sphere all the students should excel in such competitions in the future too, he said adding that this was only the first step to the success.
Taluk deputy director of public instructions subject inspector Subrahmanya Sharma said that activities related to curriculum and extra-curricular activities should be held in schools as a year-long programme helping the students get more knowledge about the same.
Chief guest of the programme president of DK Urdu teachers' association Akbar Badshah Indi said that winning and losing is part of the competition and that participation is more important than winning. Judges should be impartial in their judgement, he added.
Thirteen schools participated in the competition with 125 student participants. The competitions comprised recitation of Khirat, Na'ath, debate, essay, drawing, extempore, mono-act play, Kannada memorization, English memorization, quiz, qawwali and rendition of the national song.
K M K Manjanady compered and also proposed the vote of thanks. Corporator Mamatha Shenoy, Urdu education secretary Muhammad Haneif, DK district SBC member B Muhammad, education co-ordinator Rahamathulla and Zubeida were among the guests.
