Mangaluru: Weekend lockdown - People flock shops, police face tough time

Mangaluru, May 8: It seems the people of the city are not at all serious about the Covid pandemic second wave situation that is prevailing in the district, state and country. In spite of the weekend lockdown that was announced by the district administration on Saturday and Sunday, crowd of people was seen at milk booths and HOPCOMs.

On the morning of Saturday May 8, people were seen jostling with one another with absolutely no social distance at the milk booth of Urwa Store in the city. Similar scenes were also seen at HOPCOM shops at Mannagudda.

Police are keeping strict vigil throughout the city to curtail the movement of vehicles that roam unnecessarily. At New Chithra talkies junction near Car Street, police were seen dealing with drivers of vehicles who were roaming without any valid reason. Most of them were given pep talk and asked to go back to their homes.

Police were also seen convincing a woman to stop selling flowers on push cart as it is not an essential item. On the whole it seems police have a tough challenge on their hands to deal with the citizens in spite of repeated requests and warnings.

People are confused with the lockdown rules. I blame the shopkeepers they should be strict with the customers, they should see to it that the customers form a line with social distancing and with masks covering their mouth and nose.

I hope people who are going out are not the age of less than 10 years... they should know by themselves how to protect them. Why government or shopkeepers impose rules on them.

When a weekend lockdown is announced, noone should be allowed to be out. What is the point of vegetable vendors and milk shops being allowed to operate during curfew hours. People will definitely be out on this pretext. No vehicular movement other than emergencies should also mean no people walking on foot just visiting people to pass their time. The govt. has imposed this kind of a lockdown only to show they r trying to prevent the spread of the virus but in reality they are making sure that they have their votes coming thru the business enterprises.

Administrator are fools? Impose complete lockdown for 7 days. Without milk people may not die. What kind of lock down it is. Milk is everyday necessity. If you keep open all will go to buy. Shut down. Completely for God sake. Be rude with corona protocols. Or else corona willl be come Rude. Some of the locality I know from one week all the house members have fever and pneumonia. But none of them either check for corona or admitted to hospital. Are we all covidiots?

This is a major fault of district administration. They have announced reduced relaxation time on previous day evening ! People get panic n start buying. If people were having enough time buying things , no one will crowd. God knows how many got infected in yesterday s morning mela.... one sincere advice to our district management is PLAN PROPERLY... AVOID HASTY DECISION S. it is killing the public.

When lockdown is imposed it's important to arrange enough facilities to avail basic needs of the people. We cannot simply say 'prople are not at all serious'. Those who have seen the pathetic conditions of the people who are fighting with covid in social media, definitely are careful. Rush is seen only in big cities, because of high population. Here govt must make proper arrangements, otherwise don't impose lockdown.

Lockdown may be applicable to main city only. Here in Chitrapura Kulai. Some shops are open in the pretense of Milk sale. Vehicles are flying without any problem. People are roaming without mask.

It's insane why people dont understand . How much can police control? How much can Govt.control? Yes Govt.had failed but it is even public responsibility & our responsibility to keep our safe health. It's sad. Need to make more strickt rules . Stop even essiontal commodities if people dont listen. Put a complete lockdown. Abosultly nothing should be aviable . Even.politicians nobody should be aviable . Put military in place .
