Mangaluru, May 7: Former minister B Ramanath Rai on Friday, May 7 demanded that the state government provide a package of essential items to the poor, before imposing a lockdown in the state to contain the second wave of Covid.

Speaking during a press meet at Congress Bhavan, Rai said, "Already, people are suffering due to financial instability. Our neighbouring state of Kerala has also announced packages for the public."

He also advised the government to open up a 'Ganji Centre' in all the gram panchayats.

"Adhering to the Covid guidelines, start a canteen on the premises of Wenlock Hospital and make arrangements for the family members of Covid patients to stay in the hospital," he said.

"If Siddaramaiah-led government would have been in power, the people in the state would not have faced such a situation. But, Karnataka is being run by thieves. It is important to have a 'Janta ki Baat', instead of 'Mann Ki Baat'," Rai added. He further maintained that people are suffering due to the misadministration of state and union government.

Congress and Youth Congress have launched a Covid-19 ambulance and oxygen service. The party workers are also distributing food kits to the needy.

Youth Congress leader, Luqman Bantwal, Congress leader Sadhashiv Ullal, Shashidhar Hegde, Sahul Hameed, Naveen D'Souza, Prakash Salian, Vishwas Das, TK Sudhir, AC Vinayaraj, Praveen Alva and Subhod Alva were present at the press meet.

Congress looted Indians for 70 years from public. Follow what you have preached. Use little of the blackmoney and distribute it to citizens in Dakshina kannada. Follow stalin DMK example in Tamilnadu

Rai-kule, we are not America to go full throttle printing paper called US Dollar. We need actual money to announce real package or everyone drinks their worry off to fill state coffers. If suggestion is to fake a package, then it is different.

Whatever package announced, let them give first, which the BJP would have formulated envisaging actual money and after making budgetary provisions as rightly said by you ... After that it would look nice to talk about Economics and monetary systems....

How can the package be STREWN around ...... It is against Feku's another monkey trick of Swachch Bharat.... But then that is what you can expect from Feku and Andhbhakts..... Once elections are over, every promise will be STREWN around and you may have to carry a magnifying glass to pick it up, if at all you are able to identify one... Even for OXYGEN, they are saying the same, OXYGEN is all around, you pick it up from there.... Let them learn a lesson or two from Comrade Pinarai Vijayan..... Free Kit containing 25 essential items supplied to all including Migrants...... Those who can't travel and elderly, it reaches their homes.... Once all the infra is ready, announced lockdown..... Shameless Feku and Andhbhakts who knows only to point fingers at others for their failures....

Talking about package- Neighboring State Kerala - From what I’ve heard it’s been more than 6 months that they’ve been distributing kits through ration outlet stores. Rice dals oil etc worth 500-1000 Indian rupees. Lockdown creates pressure on people’s day to day life- hope the said policy can be implemented such that people don’t have to think such about buying things other than vegetables meat fish milk etc

Shame on on this political war. Every party has enough assets to overcome this poverty. God will bless you if you feed all those starving. Please don't blame each other and waste time. Think this is a right opportunity to get blessing. Please help the needy with whatever possible sources you all can get from each party. Let politics not be involved at this time of Pandemic. How the pressmeet permitted?? There is no rules for the politicians?? They can gather anywhere anytime dharma nema, kola, meetings or photo ops. The DC woke up yesterday evening suddenly enforced the strict measures without the people to think. Useless.

Our administration has not done any homework before announcing Lockdown. Every action is immediately taken. We need expert panel to get ideas. Only rich persons having enough money in hand, Government servents, Pensioner only can survive. Daily worker, monthly salaried, footpath vendors all gone. And this Janata Curfew is meaningless. I can't understand who gave this flop idea.
