Amid rising Covid cases, Karnataka mulling complete lockdown post May 12

Bengaluru, May 6 (IANS): Karnataka Health Minister K. Sudhakar said on Thursday that the state is likely to adopt more stringent measures to check the spread of the Covid pandemic, and in all probability, it may opt for a complete lockdown after the current phase of partial lockdown ends on May 12.

A partial lockdown is in force in Karnataka from the night of April 27 till May 12, which restricts people's free movement, while essential shops, including liquor vends, remain open between 6 am and 12 noon.

Interacting with mediapersons here, Sudhakar admitted that the partial lockdown has failed to break the chain of the virus in the state.

"Even though the government never intended to enforce a full-fledged lockdown, people's unchanged behaviour towards Covid safety protocols has forced us to rethink our strategies to contain the virus spread. Even experts and industrialists feel that it is appropriate to go for a complete lockdown. It is in this context that the state is rethinking, and we may have to opt for complete lockdown as a solution to break the chain," he said.

When asked about Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa reconstituting the Covid task force in the state, the minister said that he is 'more than happy' to work with a team of senior ministers like Industries Minister Jagadish Shettar, Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Revenue Minister R. Ashoka and Forest Minister Aravind Limbavali.

"With Yediyurappa assigning responsibilities to these senior ministers, one can be rest assured that the problems faced by the health sector would be resolved soon," he said.

Answering a question, Sudhakar said that the anti-Covid vaccination drive is likely to commence on a full scale from May 15 onwards.

"We plan to administer vaccines to the 18+ population in a full-fledged manner in order to complete the drive before a possible third wave of the pandemic hits the state," he said.

"Even though the government never intended to enforce a full-fledged lockdown, people's unchanged behaviour towards Covid safety protocols........"Ministers, why you people blame the public ? Its your greed for money and power, you all didnt put lockdown when there was an alarm of this surge in the first week of March? By the end of March, lockdown should have been put with the same strict rules and terms what you have implemented now!!! Our mp/mlas didnt want night curfew and had written letters to our chief minister. That means our govt could've been very strict last month too instead of waiting for such a surge !! Many feel, purposely govt did this way. Dont blame people, you ministers were never wearing masks and maintaining distance.

Lockdown is ok. But keep the shopa open from 8 am to 4 pm so that people buy things easily maintaining safe distance without hurry burry. Today because of the 6 to 9 reduced time in ecery shop there were more than 25 to 50 people falling one over another. Normally there will be 2 or 3. This commotion is created by your rules which are absolutely against a normal life. Ban weddings, celebrations, meetings, political gatherings anywhere totally woth hafty fines and i bet you will see the fall in numbers. 6 to 9 people fall one over another.. probably share covid from 2 or 3 unknown source from crowd, then we come back home to nurture the symptoms. Most of you are educated whrn making rules then why is we feel the rules u bring fall on uneducated type. Teach and treat people to live freely since this pandemic is not created by us.

Tamilnadu is in India, not in Pakistan. If Tamilnadu an provide assistance to Indian citizens living in Tamilnadu, why cant Karnataka government also help Indian citizens residing at Karnataka.

50,000 new cases per day in Karnataka means - Karnataka has to build 5,000(10% of tested positive) NEW ICU beds per day. 1 Lakh New ICU Beds in 3 weeks time. Also, around 10,000(20% of tested positive) NEW normal bed for mild patients per day. 2 Lakh New normal Beds in 3 weeks time. It requires Doctors, Nurses, support staff to manage these new Beds. Which is impossible to achieve.. Govt has 2 choices - Either allowing people to Die on Road & Footpath - making many families orphan Or complete lockdown to stop the spread of virus - till Health facilities can manage - small number of patients.

Fantastic visionary step by our intelligent experts, industrialists & politicians!!! Lock down at what cost? How many more deaths you want of people due to hunger? Are you ready to compensate every person your illogical measures harmed financially? A viral infection which is just like any cold virus with less than 0.003% mortality rates needs lockdowns from which ancient text books these idea was borrowed? Is it Chinese Model of Containment? I had warned people - "In an Emergency Govt. needs to take Drastic Measures like curtailing our Freedom, To continue their control Govt., will CREATE An Emergency"

Dev, do you think this is normal cold virus ??? This is a man made virus leaked by mistake from Chinese laboratory and the virus is getting stronger and strronger. If people don't follow the protocol, the Government has no other choice. We need to break this chain before a million people die. What the Government is doing is the right thing. Let them vaccinate the people and let the antibodies produce to fight the virus.

I have replied many times with evidence why this is an ordinary flu like illnesses. US CDC itself agreed about this with mortality rate of same or less dangerous than seasonal flu having mortality rate of 0.003%. For every 10000 infections only 5 lost their lives. If you need more info read my past comments and get to know why lockdown measures are useless as the very basis of present measures and protocols are based on false tests and lies about asymptomatic spreading theory created by some vested interests to sabotage our nation and its economy.
