Udupi: Claims regarding scarcity of beds, oxygen false, says MP Shobha Karandlaje

Silvester D’Souza

Daijiworld Media Network – Kundapur (EP)

Udupi, May 5: BJP leader and Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje on Wednesday maintained that there is no scarcity in beds or in the availability of oxygen in the district. "There is no problem in the availability of oxygen or beds in the district. There is no need for people to grow anxious. 43 hospitals in Udupi have been identified for Covid treatment. There are 1,924 beds and 960 beds equipped with oxygen across these hospitals. 245 beds and 736 oxygenated beds are vacant at present,” the MP said.

She was speaking to news reporters following the Covid management meeting held in the Kundapur taluk panchayat auditorium.

“Currently 89 people are under treatment at government hospitals and 145 people in private hospitals. A taluk level officer will be appointed as nodal officer to monitor the situation at private hospitals as there are complaints of non-availability of beds. He will oversee the situation of reserved beds and submit a report to the government from Thursday, May 6,” she said.

“There is no scarcity of Remdesivir also. They are being supplied according to the need. A decision on opening Covid Care Centres at various places in the district will be taken up soon. Hostels and the Morarji Desai Residential Schools will be transformed into Covid Care Centres. We are preparing to convert the old Kundapur Adarsh Hospital to Covid centre,” she said.

“There is a scarcity of vaccines. Their production is reduced and supply is less than the demand. Covishield is being administered on a priority basis to those who have obtained the first dose,” she said.

“Seeking admission into the ICU directly is unwise. Such problems will not arise if one gets examined soon after the symptoms appear,” said the deputy commissioner.

Deputy commissioner G Jagadeesh, district panchayat CEO, Navin Bhat, SP Vishnuvardhan, taluk panchayat president Indira Shetty, Kundapur subdivision officer K Raju and municipal council president, Veena Bhaskar Mendon were present.

Though news reporters were invited earlier, the meeting was confined only to officers, party leaders and elected representatives.

Oxygen unit to come up in Kundapur:

“An oxygen production unit will be opened in Kundapur soon. The land, for this reason, has been identified and a proposal in this respect is already submitted to the Centre,” said MP Shobha.

She also conducted an inspection of the Kundapur government hospital premises where the unit will come up.

How can india will become superpower with these type of uneducated MPs? I just dont understand what actually people want. Does people want development or just they are voting these people just because their mind is filled with religious poison ? To say about shoba K , She has done nothing to udupi and chikamangalure constituency in her term. She is not even suitable for a clerk job. I hope in next election people will think before voting an unsuitable person. Thanks Jai Hind.

Appreciate the attempt MP Shobha has made. At least she is visiting hospitals personally to check things are fine. Bed shortage oxygen shortage is every wer.. but ground reality is known only by the person or the family who face it.. In such situations instead of blaming each other we can be a helping hand to someone in need.. if you cannot do anything just stay home.. That’s the best you can do ...

She sounds ok, i think people should not panic but help administration contain the pandemic. ICU beds may be full as per DC but oxygenated beds outside ICU seem to be available as per her. A good next step would be to have real time data available to public on website and phone as to where nearest available oxygenated beds are available and how many, daijiworld can also help with that, and a system which coordinates placing sick people who need a bed with the available bed.

Dear Shobakka, Looks like you just returned from your estate in Coorg and may have been away for last few weeks from your elected areas. DC clearly stated - no beds available, you just wants make statements, which is false. Sad part is DC is sitting next to you and cannot refute your statements on beds and oxygen. May be request people to contact you directly for help to get hospital beds and oxygen when needed, that may help common citizens, rather than making blah blah statements Cheers

OH Shobakka ,Is Ram Rajya already there ?You are saying no scarcity of beds for Corona patients oxygen not lacking .Now you are planning oxygen production Plant .well I think by the time this plant comes up ,and starts to produce oxygen ,there will be no need I feel .Till then either corona is treated or many patients dont need of it.Half of it already in a bad stage. Why you all not thought of it long back.In the beginning you all were showing as if this doesnt exist.Later no proper lock down but people attend marraiges ,including Poiliticans Kambala ,not leaving Temple feasts.where were you all that time why didnt teach some illiterate people about it.All are hiding medicines oxygen ,and without paying Extras no sign of getting any beds oxygen ,Ambulances. Some made really a fortune.

DC himself has given a public statement in this regard? He is a very responsible person knowing what's happening at the ground level isn't it? You, outright refuting his statement is an insult to his position & the innocent, suffering, people who are following his broadcasts creating more chaos & anxiety among the public! Total collapse of coordination in the administration! Responsible people giving such statements, which are later said to be untrue should make him accountable and quit!!

M/S Shobha .....Please do not fool the people with your words. People are not asking beds to sleep or Oxygen which is available in air. Beds to sleep are not required as we are used to sleep on the floor. Provide beds with oxygen and ICU Beds. If your statement is correct, then sack the DC who said ICU Beds are full and it is alarming. Do not try to shirk your responsibility.
