Bengaluru, May 5: In a statement to the media about the extension of the lockdown-like curfew currently in force in Karnataka, chief minister (CM) B S Yediyurappa, said that further steps would be taken as per the directives of the Prime Minister (PM). He said that his government is waiting for suitable advice from the centre.
Speaking to media persons after garlanding the bust of former chief minister K C Reddy, located in the Vidhana Soudha premises on the occasion of his 119th birth anniversary, Yediyurappa noted that there has been a considerable increase in the number of infected persons both in the state and the country as a whole. The Supreme Court has also expressed its opinion in this respect, he noted.
"The Prime Minister has called for a cabinet meeting today to discuss these issues. After the meeting, we will decide about further steps we have to take in the state. If PM Modi asks us to impose lockdown, we will follow that instruction," he clarified.
The Supreme Court has given its advice to the government to announce lockdown without delay. In all likelihood, the Prime Minister may announce a decision on this matter by Wednesday evening.
