UAE suspends flights from India indefinitely amid surge in coronavirus cases

Daijiworld Media Network - Dubai

Dubai, May 4: National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) has announced the suspension of India-UAE flights indefinitely.

The announcement came at a time when India's coronavirus cases surpassed 20 million on Tuesday and deaths crossed the 220,000-mark.

The date of suspension for travellers from India was to have ended on May 4, but it has been extended until further notice.

Passengers are not allowed on India-UAE flights operated by international or local carriers. The only exemptions are UAE citizens, diplomats, official delegations, golden residency visa holders, and flights of businessmen. Further, exempted passengers have been asked to compulsorily produce a Covid test report that is no older than 48 hours prior to travel.

The UAE govt also ordered the said passengers to undertake a Covid test at the airport and on the fourth and eighth day of entry to UAE. They must also undergo a 10-day quarantine.

India-UAE flights were first suspended for 10 days from 11.59 pm on April 24. However, cargo flights between the two countries have not stopped their operations. Transit flights travelling to the UAE and bound for India have been permitted to operate as well.

Travellers coming from India through other countries should have stayed in those countries for at least 14 days in order to be allowed entry to the UAE.

The GCAA has urged travellers affected by the decision to contact the relevant airlines to reschedule their flights.

Every country is trying to save their people. But when it comes to India our political leaders were busy with elections, allowing religious gatherings, export oxygen and vaccines.

This is certainly a devastating news, as UAE has followed USA, UK, Australia n many other nation, in banning flights from our nation. Students, immigrants n expatriates, are the worst effected in this second wave of Covid19 pandemic... This invariably indicates a massive humanitarian crisis, which have caused unaccounted deaths... There is acute shortages of beds, with oxygen and ventilators. Drug Remdevisir has virtually disappeared... India is facing the worst calamity since independence !!!!

It is a sorry state of affairs that the UAE suspends flights from India indefinitely due to a rise in Covid-19 cases. This is being done as the UAE government doesn't want to risk the people living there.

With this no more exports from India including vaccines from ‘Pharmacy of the World’. Only imports which will adversely impact Indian economy further.
