Mangaluru, May 4: As the second wave of coronavirus pandemic is at peak, the number of deaths are increasing considerably. Very few people are claiming the mortal remains of the deceased to conduct their funeral rites. In the midst of this, a corporator of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) is doing a humane work of giving decent cremation to the unclaimed bodies.

Ganesh Kulal, MCC corporator of 26th southwest ward of Derebail is he Good Samaritan who is doing this noble work. He has cremated mortal remains of 12 people in the past two weeks.

Out of the 12 mortal remains, whose cremation was undertaken by Ganesh Kulal, nine died of coronavirus infection. Other three died due to non-Covid related causes. Out of these, two bodies were that of people who were natives of Madikeri and Kerala, whose relatives did not arrive to claim the same. The rest all are of Mangaluru taluk. Out of the 12, five were women. All the dead bodies were given decent cremation at the crematoriums of Nandigudde and Boloor in the city.

It is learnt that Ganesh Kulal, who also shoulders the responsibility of war room of MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, arranges ambulance facility for the needy and free arrangement for final rites in the crematorium for people who cannot afford the same. It is also said that he is responding well to scores of calls he is getting in this connection.

The humane work done by corporator Ganesh Kulal is lauded by the public wholeheartedly.
