Udupi: All ICU beds occupied, situation critical – DC Jagadeesha

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (MS)

Udupi, May 4: G Jagadeesha, deputy commissioner (DC) of the district, has sought the cooperation of pubic in controlling the Covid situation which is going to be out of control soon if people do not follow guidelines.

In his appeal to the public, he said, “All the ICU beds in the districts are occupied at present. Situation is going out of control. Of late, death rate is also increasing.

“Many people do not get themselves tested even if they get symptoms of Covid infection. They remain at home for nearly 15 days and then get directly admitted to ICU. Still people are not serious about the dreaded disease and are showing negligence.

“If the situation continues like this, it will be difficult to control. If you get symptoms of infection, get yourself tested and isolate in your home. This is good for you as well as your family members.

“If anyone arrives from outstation districts or states or countries, maintain social distance with them. If not, at least make arrangement for them to reside separately. Otherwise, getting an ICU bed will be difficult.

“Those whose immunity is good will escape from the virus. But elders and children have low immunity. People have to cooperate with us in controlling the Covid pandemic,” he said.

ICU Beds may be setup by purchase of ICU equipments. But, from where to bring Doctors, Nurses, Support Staff required to manage those new ICU beds setup? You cannot increase number of doctors overnight. Many nurses and support staff in private hospitals have either taken long leave or resigned.

ICU bed scarcity should not happen to patients suffering from the disease because one cannot predict when it makes one serious. So we have to be on our guard to provide the necessary facility for the suffering. Disease does not wait for the preparaton. It works on its own schedule. Some how we have to defeat this diseae through our courage and resistance. Nobody want to die due to this dreaded disease.

Well to do people should store groceries, essentials etc enough for 15 days, and make volunteer lockdown . That will save people from infection. Do not venture out of your home unnecessarily.
