Bengaluru, May 4: BJP leaders who had displayed a huge boarding in the outskirts of the city about arranging free funeral for the people dying of coronavirus infection, and also food and lunch arrangements for those attending the funeral, have come in for flak. People are critical of the attempts being made by the politicians to gain mileage for themselves out of death and devastation.
A flex had been erected at Giddenahalli, giving directions to the graveyard of the village where free funeral is arranged. The flex claimed that the district administration has arranged for the free funeral where water, coffee, tea, snacks and lunch would be supplied free of cost under the leadership of Nelamangala Planning Authority chairman S Mallayya, and under the guidance of BDA chairman, S R Vishwanath.
The flex also had photos of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, chief minister B S Yediyurappa, minister Ashok, and Yalahanka MLA S R Vishwanath. The photo of this flex has become viral in the social media where the netizens have trolled the BJP leaders for trying to encash the opportunity provided by the deaths which bring miseries to a large number of families. Many have chided them for not providing treatment and medicines free of cost in time and saving the people's lives and instead trying to gain publicity after the people lose their lives. As the flex came under fire from all around, it was removed.
Yalahanka MLA S R Vishwanath, speaking about the incident, said that no one lives around Giddenahalli and the area is surrounded by boulders and there is no water arrangement. He therefore clarified that in order to see that those coming there for funerals do not face problems, on humanitarian grounds, water and food were arranged with the support of officials. He agreed that it was wrong to have printed the photographs of the chief minister and other leaders in the flex and expressed regret for the same.
