Udupi, Aug 9: The Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter And Preservation of Cattle Bill 2010 that was passed amidst chaos in the state legislature recently, is awaiting the Presidential assent, as the state Governor, H R Bhardwaj, has forwarded it to her. BJP state president, K S Eshwarappa, said that a BJP delegation led by Chief Minister, B S Yeddyurappa, would be meeting the President on Monday August 9 to appeal to her to give her assent to the bill so that it becomes an act in the state.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday August 9, Eshwarappa felt that by refusing to sign the bill forwarded to him and sending it instead, to the President of India, the state Governor, H R Bhardwaj, has hurt the sentiments of the majority of the people here. “It is imperative on the part of the Governor to give his assent to bills that have got the nod of both the houses of legislature. However, it appears that the state Governor has doubts about and does not value, the democratic process. The government requests him to give his assent to the bill, and will also request the President do so,” he explained.

He claimed that even the Muslims and Christians have supported the said bill, whereas the Congress and the JDS have been trying to play spoilsport. Claiming that 18 states have already passed such acts, he expressed the confidence that the President will give her nod to the bill. About minister Sriramulu’s move to shave his head, he quipped that those who have heads, get them tonsured, whereas others indulge in Padayatras. He warned the opposition parties to give in to the feelings of the people to ensure that they continue to be present in the state. He also strongly justified the BJP’s leaders habit of getting periodical guidance from the Sangh Parivar leaders.

About JDS supremo, Deve Gowda’s statement that old cows should be assigned to ‘Keshava Kripa’, he asked whether Deve Gowda would like to be confined to a godown. “If he insults cows which are reverred as Mother God by the Hindus, he will himself face the consequences,” he commented.
