Bengaluru, May 3: With hospitals across Karnataka gasping for oxygen and even Covid patients dying due to oxygen shortages, chief minister B S Yediyurappa on Monday held a meeting with the manufacturers and suppliers of oxygen to ensure that there were no problems in the supply.

The meeting attended by chief secretary P Ravi Kumar decided that the oxygen manufacturers and suppliers should ensure that the entire allocated quantities of oxygen to the state by the Centre must be ensured.

The meeting also directed the oxygen manufacturers and suppliers should take steps to reduce the time taken to re-fill the oxygen tankers and ensure that a green corridor for faster commuting of oxygen tankers was provided.

The state government decided to direct all the toll gates to avoid unnecessary delays besides asking the oxygen manufacturers and suppliers to convert nitrogen and argon tankers available for supplying oxygen.

It also directed to utilize the services of LPG tanker drivers in case of emergency.

The oxygen manufacturers and suppliers were directed to resolve the issues by approaching the concerned officer directly and ensure an uninterrupted supply of oxygen and make optimum utilization of available oxygen tankers.

Some times we do not know whether to laugh or to cry. When Covid Started in China in Nov 2019, we should have had our preparations, all these meaningless meeting with the industrialists, etc. Today we would have had surplus vaccines, oxygen, beds, ventilators etc. What did we do in 60+ years, has been thrown away in the last 2 years. A country which turned a donor, is once again receiving Donations from the world.... how painful is this?

Mr. CM, BSY : Nowadays your memory power is very much on lower side and now it's of high time you should handover the CM post to a well qualified person to handle the Crises. Your meetings will not solve immediate issues and this only dragging for few hours and by the time the patient will die. Tell all your MLAs to act and they should visit the hospitals to take the stock of facilities. Kindly see (04.05.2021) Today's Times of India paper I read about reservation for Bed in Hospitals and they are collecting huge amount. Ask your officials to find out and Sack them from the Service.

He should have done it months ago! Now it’s only a fire fighting exercise. If he had planned in advance like Kerala CM we would not have landed in such crisis.

Urchere banaga bithul nadeyege...... BJP had one year to install oxygen plant in all the districts....But no... Now blame Nehru.... Did the Centre allocate funds to states for building oxygen plants? No, the Centre did not allocate any funds to states for the installation of oxygen plants in district hospitals. The Central Medical Services Society floated a tender on October 21, 2020, inviting bids for the installation of 150 PSA oxygen plants. Here Center wasted 8 months. The tender gave bidders time until November 10, 2020 to submit their bids. The final contracts were given in December 2020. The vendor who was given the contracts for hospitals in the national capital had run away. It pointed out that even the central government-run Safdarjung Hospital, on the list of the 162 hospitals, is yet to have its PSA oxygen plant up and running. Of the 162 PSA oxygen plants, the largest number (14) were sanctioned for BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh. Scroll.in called officials in all 14 district hospitals in the state. Not even a single hospital reported having an operational plant. After our report was published, the health ministry itself noted only one of the PSA oxygen plants had been installed in the state. Who is responsible for the installation of the oxygen plants? The Central Medical Services Society, a body under the Union ministry of health, was responsible for evaluating the bids, checking the eligibility of bidders, fixing prices, selecting vendors and ensuring the selected vendors delivered the goods. The selected vendors were responsible for the installation of the oxygen plants in the district hospitals. Now lets blame Nehru...

Knowing that oxygen tankers is the main bottleneck, it is a good measure to convert argon and nitrogen tanker to increase the availability of tankers to transport liquid oxygen. A task force also should be set up to monitor oxygen position on real time basis which will monitor oxygen stock at hospital, maximum storage capacity, rate of consumption, tanker capacity and movement, oxygen production and storage at production plants so that emergency is avoided and lives saved.
