Mangaluru, May 3: Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner (DC) Dr Rajendra K V, has advised the people not to become panicky about the delayed second dose. He said that the second dose of vaccination can be administered even after six to eight weeks.

The DC revealed that Covaxin supply is limited and the district does not have its stock now. He said that when the stock arrives, those who have to be vaccinated will be informed. "Even in respect of Covishield second dose, we will inform the people to visit the centre, based on the availability of the doses. The health department will give this information. For the first dose, there is no provision for on the spot registration. They have to compulsorily get registered on line and visit the centres based on appointments," he clarified.

With the number of corona infected persons on the rise in the district, more and more people are coming forward to get vaccinated. Because of shortage of vaccine, the district administration has made it compulsory for the people getting first dose to register themselves online in advance.

Those who had got the first vaccinations four to five weeks hack are returning after visiting the centres. On Sunday, when the officials at the Wenlock Hospital told the people that there was no stock for second doses, a few people took the staff to task before returning home in frustration.

A total of seven containment zones have been created in the district, two each in Dharmasthala Bantwal and Mangaluru, and one in Beltangady. Out of 20 inmates of an old age home at Hosabettu, Surathkal, eight have been infected. Those having serious problems have been admitted into hospital and the balance have been separated from the rest and asked to stay in the old age home.

In Dharmasthala, out of ten cluster houses, 17 positive cases have been reported. They have been put together and made into containment zone. Containment zones have also been created in Kadeshwalya in Bantwal (11 cases), Kukkila (10), Jeppinamogaru Mangaluru (7), Posavalike Dharmasthala (6) and Shishila (6 cases).

The health department said that the district is expecting to get more doses of the vaccines and the district currently has only 2,500 doses. The department stated that 508 people were vaccinated on Sunday.

About the need for Remdesivir and oxygen, the private hospitals have to register their demand in the KPME portal. Every day, with the SRF ID demand for medicine has to be submitted. Unregistered hospitals cannot place demand online and they cannot be supplied with the items. No demand received directly from organizations and institutions will be entertained. Supply will be made for demands made through the web links, the department added.

As a precautionary measure, to ensure that the covidd-19 patients to not face dearth of beds in the district, 50 percent of available beds in private hospitals and 75 percent beds in private medical college hospitals have been reserved for them.
