Udupi, May 3: District in-charge minister Basavaraj Bommai visited district hospital at Ajjarkad here on Sunday May 2.
After taking rounds at the hospital, he said, “There is no shortage of ICU beds in the district hospital and private hospitals. Separate beds are arranged for SARI cases. Results in RT-PCR tests may turn out to be negative. Hence, there may be more number of SARI cases in the coming days. Hence, as many as 25 additional oxygen beds will be increased at Ajjarkad hospital. Separate beds will be arranged for Covid and SARI patients.
“More than 600 Covid cases are being reported every day in Udupi. Labs may be under pressure in the coming days. At present, only one government lab is operating here in the district. Around 3,000 swabs are being tested in pooling method. We were decided to test more swab samples. For that purpose, a suitable lab will be installed here and it will help to test 300 samples independently.
“We have instructed the monitoring of inter-state and inter-district travellers. We have confident fighting Covid by implementing 3T formula, which is Testing, Tracing and Treatment.
“The government has issued a revised order for grocery and vegetable shops. Earlier, people were panicking and the time allowed was not enough to for them to make purchases. Through this revised order, we will be able to stop overcrowding in markets,” he said.
Deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha, zilla panchayat CEO Dr Naveen Bhat, district surgeon Dr Madhusudan Nayak, Covid nodal officer Dr Prashanth Bhat, MLAs Raghupati Bhat, Sunil Kumar and Lalaji R Mendon, president of Coastal Development Authority Mattaru Ratnakar Hegde and others were present.
