Mangaluru/Udupi, May 2: Dakshina Kannada on Sunday May 2 reported another spike in the number of coronavirus cases, with the district recording 996 new infections and one death, while Udupi reported 413 fresh cases and two deaths.
As per the Dakshina Kannada district health bulletin, a total of 7,49,956 samples have been tested so far, out of which 7,02,918 have turned out to be negative.
The total number of positive cases in the district stands at 47,038, out of which 7,595 are currently active.
As many as 413 patients were discharged from hospitals on Sunday, taking the total number of recoveries to 38,683.
The district recorded one death due to coronavirus on Sunday. The death toll in the district so far stands at 760.
With cases steadily increasing, the district administration has urged people to strictly continue maintaining social distance in public places and wear masks when stepping out of the house. Anyone not wearing a mask would be fined by the authority.
So far, the district administration has collected a whopping Rs 52,98,730 as fine in 50,673 incidents of mask violation.
Udupi
As per the district health bulletin, Udupi has reported 413 positive cases on Sunday. The total number of infected patients is 32,625.
As of Sunday, 788 patients have been discharged from hospitals, taking the recoveries to 29,914.
The total active cases 2,511 in the district.
Two deaths were reported on Sunday, with which the toll so far has risen to 200.
