Mangaluru, May 2: With the surge in coronavirus cases in Dakshina Kannada district, there has been a huge spurt in the demand for pulse oximeters. However, there is reportedly a shortage of oximeters in medical shops.

The district administration has advised the people to keep oximeters handy so that they can check for themselves about the onset of coronavirus symptoms.

People have been advised to remain indoors because of the curfew in place, and to use oximeters and steamers at home. But these two items are not available in the medical shops including Janaushadhi Kendras now.

Several types of oximeters ranging from Rs 1,500 to 3,000 are usually sold in the medical shops. A resident of Bantwal said that the medical shops who claim that they do not have stock, quote higher prices if the customers urge them for the same.

Raveesh, president of Janaushadhi Kendra Dakshina Kannada, has been quoted saying that because of sudden rise in demand, the stock has been exhausted and the same is expected to be replenished by the dealers in a couple of days.
