Mangaluru, Apr 30: The police on Friday, April 30 raided Nisarga Bar & Restaurant near Talapady checkpoint at around 2 pm. In the raid 52 boxes of liquor worth Rs 1.53 lac was found stocked in a room without any valid bills.

The cashier of the bar identified as Charan (22) was present in the room. Upon questioning him, he revealed that the liquor was purchased from another wine store in the city. From Charan's revelations, the police also discovered that the bar has been hoarding liquor for the past three months and transporting it to neighbouring states like Kerala.

Further, the bar was violating the guidelines by the state government and selling liquor past the stipulated timings. They have also come in violation for storing more of a quantity of liquor than what is permitted.

A person named Divya Raj Shetty (38) is the license holder of the bar.

The police have arrested Charan and assigned a team to arrest Divya Raj and Rohit, the manager of the store where Charan bought the liquor from.

In the raid, the police seized, Boss Black & Gold Whisky (1,728 bottles of 180 ml); Bejois Whisky (36 bottles of 1 ltr); DSP Black (24 bottles of 750 ml); Boss Whisky (120 bottles of 750 ml).

Why poor Charan is arrested ? He is just an employee and he does not have any control over the business and only if there is any financial irregularity, he is answerable, being a cashier. As far as owner or Manager are concerned, they have violated the timing and stored alcohol, more than the capacity. However, no alcohol comes to the shop without payment of excise duty, when it is taken out from govt bonded warehouse. Shetty has a licence and he can be fined by police for violating govt timing. As far as quantity is concerned, no person is a Satya Harishchandra in business and such things should not be taken as a big offence. Only if he has alcohol that is without payment of excise duty, that is an offence.

As per my knowledge suppliers will supply seconds it is called, with the previous bill same quantity supplier without bill. ( normally a bar or wine shop owner has to make a purchase permit that is valid for a week, they use same purchase permit multiple times for a week with the help of concerned people, in this case police lost their share since seconds supply commission goes to excise personnel only) *****most of the bar owners make money with second supply.
