Mangaluru: Amid lockdown, vehicular traffic witnesses a surge

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Apr 30: On the second day since the lockdown-like curfew was imposed, the city witnessed dense vehicular traffic till 10 am on Thursday April 29. Even thereafter, a considerable number of vehicles were seen moving around.

On Wednesday, in contrast, the city was almost still after 10 am. Only vehicles for emergencies were seen moving. In comparison, the number of vehicles on the road was more on 'Thursday. On Thursday, there did not seem to be any strict restriction on the movement of vehicles in the city. At a few places, it was seen that the vehicles were allowed to go without checking. Staff of emergency services, employees of some industries, banks and other government-owned concerns were moving about.

Except the check posts at Kulur and Nanthoor, the checking was not tight in other check posts. Many people commented that by taking advantage of this slackness, people unnecessarily moved around on the roads inside the city. Police sources said that they did not allow movement of vehicles unnecessarily and that only employees of emergency services and some other concerns for genuine reasons were allowed. They stressed that they did not make any concessions and insisted that action is being taken without exception if unwanted movement of vehicles is witnessed.

Fear kills you before any virus does. The corona virus is a little more contagious than the normal flue but it's not lethal unless you take care of yourself. People are scared of the Corona virus - most of them don't know that there are even more deadlier viruses in the world.

Traveling in vehicles doesn't spread any virus if vegetable or food supply vehicles roam the same street without spreading it. Let people take care with fear or scientific knowledge about this virus epidemic which is just like any seasonal flu with mortality rate of 0.003% only.

All Businesses & Jobs are ESSENTIAL for each & every person whose livelihood they earn through. Who was the person to decide which is essential or not? If vehicles need to be on road repair shops & shops that sell the spare parts too need to be open are always part of the Essential List. The persons who decided only eating is essential without money needs to be sent to Andaman island where no money he can use to survive in Sentenalese Island.

I think Mangalorians are not scared for Covid19 death, I believe. Or they might have lost the faith in future life. That's why those people are not obeying the rules.

Living in this pandemic itself is hardship for all people ... And again going hard on people for coming out does not make sense..Some are blessed to stay at home because they could afford to..Most of us we cannot... So please don't comment like punishing people for being out.. You never know what they are going through..

No purpose is going to be served if the police do not come down heavily on those who flout the rules. The other day there was an interview on Daijiworld of the Police Commissioner. After listening to the interview, I got an impression that he has decided to treat Mangaloreans with kid gloves. It is all very well to extend kindness and gentleness to people but when they don't follow the rules, they should be shown the stick. No two ways about that. The hardship the people go through while following the lockdown will come to naught if some people come out and roam around flouting the rules. The idea of the lockdown is to break the corona chain. If no action is taken on those who fail to follow the rules, I don't think anything is going to come out of this lockdown. The police should not allow anyone to roam on the streets unless they have a valid reason.

Vishal Mangalore, what about a check on people coming from other states, districts and countries? There is no proper isolation and quarantine of the above people who come to Mangalore. Since a few months of this year people are just going in and out of the city, no effort to curb the corona chain.

Seriously? Where is the lock down then? I was here and most of them are wearing mask like their beards. Yes we can then blame God and Modi.

People blame PM for not leading with example by conducting election rallies. People blame PM/CM or authorities for not planning the infrastructure. We can blame individuals for personal responsibility such as not wearing mask etc. But collective responsibility falls on leaders on power.
